Hire Jim Essian
From Sports Library
Hire Jim Essian is a satirical blog that is written under the pseudonym Bad Kermit. The blog was originally titled Fire Lou Piniella, but because the writer was unable to get the domain name from some cybersquatters, a naming contest was held.
Bad Kermit had a blog in 2006 named Fire Dusty Baker, and after the firing of Dusty Baker in October 2006, he had to open a new blog. Since Lou Piniella was newly hired, he felt naming his blog Fire Lou Piniella would be a tongue-in-cheek way to promote his blog.
The site does not seem to honestly advocate the re-hiring of Jim Essian, who skippered the Cubs for much of 1991.
Among the features of the blog was a countdown of The Bottom 126 Cubs of My Time, in which Bad Kermit lists a number of players he disliked for a variety of reasons. In fact, the list contains nearly 150 players, but Bad Kermit named it the Bottom 126 because he originally came up with a list of 126 bad players in a short period of time. This feature was a parody of Al Yellon's 100 Greatest Players in Chicago Cubs History.
